When Religion Turns Evil

This is the title of a lecture being given on Monday night at Meredith College. I'm trying not to go into this lecture with any preconceived notions. However, this thought hit me earlier this morning (or was it last night? I'm so tired, I can't remember.)

Does religion turn evil?

I don't think so. Religion doesn't turn evil-people turn evil. How do people turn evil? How do people take a noble concept like religion and twist it into something ugly? The answer is Satan. He is responsible for whispering evil thoughts in our ears. Every second of every day, Satan works to destroy out hearts, our minds, our souls and thus destroying humanity in the process.

It will be very interesting to see how this professor conveys his message to the audience and if he singles out one particular faith. *sigh* We shall see.

Salaam Marcelle,

I didn't go to the lecture--you'll have to let me know how it went. Did he blame Islam for terrorism or anything like that? I just wonder--I've never heard of the guy.

Salaam Amy!

Actually, I have to admit, this guy was the coolest Baptist I think I've ever heard! :-) Seriously, he made some good points and he really didn't talk about religion being evil either. He spent about an hour defending Islam and trying to set the record straight, so to speak.
